- CD-SHARE COMPATIBILITY LIST
-
- This is a list of problems with which users have experienced problems
- with CD-SHARE and the solutions to those problems plus some of our
- recommendations. We have taken this approach as we have found very few
- CDROM application programs to be incompatible with CD-SHARE - it is
- therefore simpler to list this with problems.

-
- Section : DEVELOPMENT COLLECTION TOOLS from main menu.
-
- A: When starting, the software will attempt to scan all CDROM
- drives attached to the CDROM device driver (in our case
- CDWORK.SYS (whatever you name it). If you use MSCDEX and CDR has
- been started with multiple drive units you will get "CDR101
- Drive not ready" errors from and logical CDWORK drive unit not
- connected to a CDROM on a server - it is therefore advisable to
- have all logical drives redirected to a CDServer drive, even if
- they are all redirected to the same physical drive. It is not
- known if the software will hang under these conditions if MSCDEX
- is not used (our copy doesn't hang).
-
- B: If MSCDEX is not used and any CDROM errors occur the CDROM
- software will typically hang with no error messages and no means
- of recovery except re-booting. If MSCDEX is used (and BTLINK.CFG
- is set to use the MSCDEX drive(s)) you will get error messages
- and an opportunity to recover the error - at worst quitting back
- to DOS. An example of this would be an attempt to access a CDROM
- drive with it's CDROM ejected, or accessing a CDROM with a bad
- sector.
-
- C: While the software will run with greater then about 320K of
- XMS/EMS memory it will typically hang unrecoverably during
- searches and displays if less than about 400K of XMS/EMS was
- available, we recommend 450-500K to be safe. If there is
- insufficient XMS (>300K) to start the DEVELOPMENT COLLECTION
- TOOLS software - it will simply return to the main menu with no
- error messages. Under certain error conditions (only recoverable
- when using MSCDEX) the allocated XMS memory will NOT be released
- when exiting the BT software therefore making it impossible to
- re-run the CDROM search software without re-booting the PC.
-
- D: While the software authors strongly recommend NOT using MSCDEX
- for performance, we have determined that using MSCDEX the CDROM
- software almost ALWAYS runs faster (in some cases five times
- faster) and using MSCDEX is the only way to avoid the software
- hanging the machine if CDROM errors occur.
